TRUMP WON AGAIN! THANK GOD!!!!
I suspect we are all praising the Lord every day when we wake up and know that Donald J Trump and the outstanding individuals he has chosen to be his cabinet members will be taking control of the oh, so corrupt Washington Leviathan (aka, the Federal Government) in a few short weeks!! We hired him to do the Washington Hokey Pokey, put the RIGHT folks in and throw the LEFT folks out, and it looks like that will indeed happen! He will once again
MAKE AMERICA GREAT!
We can also be thankful that Florida did not succumb to the evil plan of the left to alter our actual constitution to make unrestricted abortion legal. Since the word "viability" was not defined in that proposed amendment, we could have seen full term abortions being performed on 15 year old's without parental consent right here in Florida!
Further, we should celebrate the similar failure of the attempt by big corporations like the Canadian pot growers and Morgan and Morgan ambulance-chaser attorneys to legalize the unrestricted use of pot in our excellent state. That bill would have allowed anyone to smoke pot in any location within the state. Our sidewalks, restaurants, and beaches could have been filled with the skunk-like odor of pot smoke, turning our beautiful state into another California or Colorado. Our automobile accident rates would have likely tripled. Lung damage would have been more common. If someone needs the help of marijuana for medical purposes, fine, get a medical marijuana card and consume it in the privacy of your own home. But don't bring that nasty smoke onto our streets and beaches! Lord help us!
In addition, the residents of the City of North Port can celebrate the fact that their City Commissioners will not be allowed to borrow $15,000,000 indiscriminately every year without the prior consent of the voters. The borrowed funds could have been used for "health or safety projects" that could include all sorts of things like for example a tax-funded abortion clinic or perhaps housing for illegal immigrants. One of the worst parts of that proposal was that the projects could be "required by regulatory agencies" like for example the federal government. So the taxpayers of the City of North Port would be paying for pet projects dreamed up by federal bureaucrats. What could have gone wrong there?!!!!!
Also, the residents of the City of Venice can be grateful that they will no longer have to deal with yearly elections and their elections will now be held just on even years along with the state and federal elections. They will also save $50,000 for each odd year elections that will no longer occur. Most importantly, the elections will better represent the true will of the voters because even year elections have much higher turnout rates than odd year elections.
In order for a Florida constitutional amendment to pass, it needs to attain 60% voter support. Interestingly all of the amendments, including the abortion and the pot amendments, earned over 50% voter support, but the only two that achieved 60% support were the "legalize fishing and hunting" amendment and the amendment to give an inflation adjustment to homestead exemptions. Thus, our school board races will continue to be non-partisan which means that the political party of the candidates running for school board will still not be listed on our ballots, so it will be harder to know if the candidate is Republican or Democrat. But RightVotes.com will still be here to help you with that information. Additionally, the voters have decided to continue to be taxed 1 cent on every dollar spent to augment the school board funding. They also voted to continue subsidizing certain state-wide political races with taxpayer funds.
Happily, almost all of the Republican candidates won their races in Sarasota County. Those results can be found at https://www.sarasotavotes.gov/Election-Information/Election-Results
